When the Arizona Cardinals take the field on Thursday night for their game against the San Francisco 49ers, one of the team's best players might not be there.

Star running back David Johnson has been hampered several injuries over the past few weeks. He missed last weekend's game against the New Orleans Saints and has been limited in practice this week.

It's unclear if he'll be ready to go on a short week after sitting out on Sunday.

Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury addressed the status of two of his running backs. He said Chase Edmunds will miss Thursday's game while the team is "still working through it" with Johnson.

With the recent rash of injuries to their running backs, the Cardinals shipped a sixth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for Kenyan Drake. The pick can become a fifth-rounder depending on what Drake does with the team.

If Johnson is unable to go this week, Drake will likely receive the bulk of the carries. The team also added Alfred Morris and Zach Zenner in response to injuries at the position.

Arizona and San Francisco kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET. Stay tuned for the latest on Johnson and the Cardinals running backs before the game.
