The Los Angeles Rams’ decision to cut all-world running back Todd Gurley has stunned the NFL. But as fans and analysts try to make sense of what happened, Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald may have had the strongest reaction of all.
In a Twitter reply to the Rams’ announcement, Donald replied with a red-faced, swearing emoji. In no time at all, his reaction has garnered hundreds of retweets and thousands of likes. Based on the shared reactions of Rams fans everywhere, Donald’s opinion is pretty much on the nose.
Gurley was heading into the third year of a four-year, $60 million contract extension he signed in 2018. The year he signed the extension, Gurley rushed for a career-high 17 touchdowns and helped propel them to the Super Bowl. But his production fell in 2019, and it seems the Rams weren’t keen on paying him an eight-digit salary.
The former No. 10 overall pick ends his career in Los Angeles with 1,265 carries for 5,404 yards and 58 touchdowns. He was a three-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro, 2015 Rookie of the Year, and the 2017 Offensive Player of the Year.

As for the Rams, they made it clear with their record-setting extension for Jared Goff last year that they want to be a passing-oriented offense.
But much like Gurley, Goff regressed in 2019, too.
It remains to be seen what happens to the Rams they’ve let go of best backs in the game is gone.
Will the Rams be better or worse in 2020?
