It's over for Chip Kelly in San Francisco.
ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport are both reporting that the 49ers have informed Chip Kelly of his future with the franchise.
He's being fired.
The 49ers then tweeted an official release.
Kelly said this about his job status prior to Sunday.
“I control what I can control,” Kelly said. “All we can control is how we coach our players and what we do with them. If that’s good enough, it’s good enough. It it’s not good enough, so be it.”
Kelly, 53, has been the 49ers head coach for just one season. San Francisco went 2-14 this season and also fired its general manager.
The former Oregon head coach is 28-35 with one playoff appearance as an NFL head coach.
Kelly-to-X-college-team reports/rumors will likely surface, but the offensive mind has said he has no interest in returning to the college game. Will that change now that he's job-less? We'll see.
