For years now, George Kittle's been one of Jimmy Garoppolo's biggest supporters. That won't change anytime soon. But the 49ers superstar tight end is starting to become impressed with what he's seen from Trey Lance.

Kittle joined ESPN's First Take on Tuesday to discuss what he's seen from Lance so far. He highlighted the former North Dakota State star's ability to limit mistakes.

"He’s competitive every single day," Kittle said of Lance, transcribed by "He doesn’t let mistakes stop him. Nothing snowballs.”

Kittle went on to praise Lance's athletic abilities. The No. 3 overall pick was a major threat in the rushing attack at North Dakota State. In 19 games with the Bison, Lance carried the rock 192 times for 1,325 yards and 18 touchdowns.

“Trey’s a good quarterback,” Kittle continued. “I’m excited to see the progression that he makes. He’s a hell of an athlete. Just being in OTAs with him, he’s a guy that wants to learn every single day. ... He’s got all the right attributes, and I’m just excited to see how he progresses in training camp."

It sounds like Trey Lance is starting to make a big impression within the 49ers' organization.

Lance will eventually replace Garoppolo as San Francisco's starting quarterback, it's only a matter of when. Kyle Shanahan has admitted multiple times already he took Lance because of Garoppolo's injury history, but it probably stretches a bit beyond that.

The 49ers, when healthy, are one of the more dangerous offenses in the NFL, even with Garoppolo under center. Lance expands the offense even further, thanks to his rushing ability. His downfield accuracy is also enticing.

So far, Kittle loves what he's seen from Lance. If the rookie continues playing well, he'll challenge Garoppolo for the starting gig early in the 2021 season.
