George Kittle Shares Initial Impression Of Trey Lance At OTAs

Trey Lance warms up on the field.

It's early, but it seems like San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance has left a favorable impression on at least one important teammate.

On Tuesday, 49ers All-Pro tight end George Kittle was asked for his thoughts on Lance, who is now a couple of OTAs into his career with San Francisco. It sounds like so far, so good for the No. 3 overall pick.

"He looks better out there than a rookie quarterback," Kittle said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. "When he’s out there, he’s slinging it."

Of course, Lance's early reps have been limited, with incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo still in place atop the depth chart. However, Kittle told reporters that one play in particular on Monday from the North Dakota State star stood out to him.

"I was really excited yesterday, he made an awesome throw on a play action," Kittle said Tuesday. "He found my rookie Josh Pederson on a far corner on a roll-out which is the last guy you would throw it to on the play. The fact that he found him on his first ever roll-out is pretty cool."

San Francisco traded up to take Lance with a top-three pick, but all indications are they do not intend to rush him along. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has said on multiple occasions he expects Garoppolo to be the team's starter in 2021.

Considering Jimmy G's injury history though, it would behoove Lance to be ready to go at a moment's notice.
