The San Francisco 49ers are 5-0 after today’s dominant 20-7 win over the Los Angeles Rams. It is the franchise’s first 5-0 start since 1990.
San Francisco is also one of only two undefeated teams left in the NFL, along with the New England Patriots. There’s a lot of season left to play, but the 49ers certainly appear to be a bona fide contender.
After today’s game, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan put the NFL on notice. In his mind, his defense isn’t even at its peak yet.
Mind you, this is a defense that has given up 10 points combined the last two weeks and hasn’t given up more than 20 in a game all season. In five games, San Francisco has surrendered 64 points (12.8 per contest).
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan: “This defense is just getting started.”
That, for a team coached by a brilliant offensive mind, is a scary proposition.

With the Redskins, Panthers and Cardinals coming up, San Francisco could be 8-0, or at least 7-1, going into a primetime showdown with the Seattle Seahawks on November 11.
Both of those teams are not only fighting for the NFC West crown; they’re also angling for a chance to be one of the top two seeds in the conference come playoff time.
It’s like its 2013 all over again.
