The Rams shipped quarterback Jared Goff and several draft picks to the Detroit Lions for Stafford. Of course, the team hopes he can do what Goff failed to do: lead the team to a Super Bowl victory.
To do so, the Rams will need to perform well against a stacked NFC West. One of the coaches in the division spoke about the Rams getting a star quarterback in a massive trade.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan wasn’t pleased when the trade went down.
“You don’t want to get me started, dude,” Shanahan said on The Ringer’s Flying Coach podcast with Rams head coach Sean McVay and NFL Network’s Peter Schrager. “That was frustrating. I was in Cabo. I was studying it all.”
Here’s more via Bleacher Report:
Stafford’s the man. I studied him hard coming out of college, and you always play against him, so you know how good he is. But to know he might be available and to spend two weeks really watching him, Sean, yeah, he’s better than I realized. He was the man. He’s actually underrated to me.
Shanahan has his own quarterback decision to worry about. The team returns starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, but also spent plenty of draft capital to move up and select Trey Lance.
Jimmy G and the rookie will battle it out in training camp to determine who starts this fall.
