The biggest story in the NFL this week revolves around San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel. It was announced on Wednesday that he officially requested a trade.

Some reports have indicated that Samuel is uncomfortable with his current role in San Francisco. On Friday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport provided the latest on this situation.

Rapoport claims Samuel's frustration stems from the 49ers not offering him a new contract. The All-Pro wide receiver is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Not only has Samuel requested a trade, he reportedly told the 49ers to not even bother offering an extension.

"From my understanding Deebo Samuel basically told the 49ers I want to be traded, don't make an offer," Rapoport said on

">. "When people say 'It's probably about the money.' I don't think this is. If he had an offer of $25 million a year, might it have made it more difficult to start this whole thing? Yeah, he'd have a lot more to think about. But they didn't."

Samuel had 1,770 scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns in 2021, catapulting the 49ers to an NFC Championship Game appearance.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the New York Jets, Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers have shown interest in Samuel.

With the NFL Draft just six days away, the 49ers may have to make a decision on Samuel soon.
