As sports have been put on hold, we’ve seen some big time athletes make significant contributions to help their communities during the fight against COVID-19. The Seattle area is one those hit hardest by the novel coronavirus, and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife Ciara are stepping up.
As of this morning, there were 5,179 confirmed cases in the state of Washington, per The New York Times. Only six states have more cases, but Washington is only behind New York in total COVID-19 deaths, with 221 so far. It has been devastating in Russell Wilson and Ciara’s community.
Moments ago, the pop star announced an impressive initiative. The couple has pledged to team with Wheels Up, a private aviation company, and Feeding America to raise funds for 10 million meals for families. The couple has already donated one million meals of their own. According to Feeding America’s website, a donation of even $1 can provide 10 meals for families in need.
Hopefully, that effort helps spur on others to do the same. With restaurants and grocery stores on the frontlines of the economic impact of this virus, this is going to be a huge need going forward.

So far, play in just about every sports except for football has been impacted by the coronavirus. That might not be the case in a few months.
If the worldwide pandemic doesn’t slow down soon, it will be very difficult to justify having the college and NFL seasons move forward as scheduled.
Of course, we all hope that is not the case. For now, focus is on taking the necessary steps to get past this virus.
