NFL Fans Don't Blame Teams For Not Wanting To Be On 'Hard Knocks'
The NFL has yet to pick a team to star in this summer's installment of Hard Knocks.
While the league can force one of four teams -- New York Jets, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Commanders -- to open its doors to the HBO series, they reportedly asked if another team is willing to take center stage again.
According to John Niyo of The Detroit News, the NFL inquired about the Lions starring on Hard Knocks for the second straight season.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh, Saints head coach Dennis Allen, and Bears chairman George McCaskey have all expressed reluctance to do Hard Knocks. Meanwhile, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera didn't speak kindly about the show two years ago.
Fans are wondering if Hard Knocks has run its course anyway.
"The series is beyond dead," a fan claimed. "There is nothing new to offer the viewers."
"It's absurd that the NFL can force any team to engage in this silly, counter-productive nonsense," another fan said.
"Honestly, Hard Knocks is getting redundant and a bit boring," a fan declared. "I believe they need to rethink the format, but the Lions deserve the attention and if they get it again I think that's great for the team and for all of us to get at least one more Dan Campbell-ism."
"Hot take: Hard Knocks has never really ever been appealing to watch and it’s only gotten worse," a fan said.
Although some fans still might enjoy getting an inside peak inside the team's facility, most organizations see it as a nuisance and a possible competitive disadvantage.
The NFL can make one of those four teams appear on Hard Knocks because they've gone two years without a playoff berth, at least 10 years without getting featured on the show, and don't have a first-year head coach. The league could instead search for a willing team, but they might not find many eager volunteers.
