On Tuesday afternoon, reports said Teddy Bridgewater was returning to the New Orleans Saints. According to multiple reports, Bridgewater was to sign a one-year deal that would have paid him $7 million.
However, once the NFL’s new league year kicked in, Bridgewater remained a free agent. The former Louisville star reportedly plans to meet with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday night.
The Dolphins are in search of a new quarterback, and Bridgewater could be the answer. After starting his career with the Minnesota Vikings, Bridgewater suffered a horrific knee injury that nearly cost him his career.
Now he’s looking to secure his big payday.
But where will he play?
According to a report from Clarence Hill Jr., New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton’s future could impact Bridgewater’s decision.
One question with Bridgwater staying in New Orleans on the hope of replacing Drew Brees is there is no guarantee Sean Payton will still be there as coach, per source close to the QB. Those Dallas rumors haven't gone away and they have heard them. So https://t.co/4kC8eFYI6w

Payton has been linked to the Dallas Cowboys in recent seasons. Those rumors grew louder this off-season when Jerry Jones decided to keep Jason Garrett on a one-year deal.
If the Cowboys don’t find success in 2019, Jones could make a move for Payton.
According to Clarence Hill, that decision could be impacting Bridgewater’s free agency. The Saints backup wants to take over for Drew Brees, but with Sean Payton as the team’s head coach.
