NFL Reportedly Looking Into Bringing Games To 2 New Countries
The NFL is continuing to pursue more international games for 2024.
Last month, NFL executive vice president Peter O'Reilly said the league began investigating the possibility of hosting a regular-season game in Brazil or Spain next year. Per Eric Fisher of Front Office Sports, the review process remains ongoing.
A decision is expected this December or January.
The NFL went international when hosting its first London game in 2007. They've held five games in Mexico from 2016 to 2022 and went to Germany for the first time last season.
"There’s real opportunity," O’Reilly said. "Germany is a unique market with the history of NFL Europe and how strong the American football legacy is there, but the reason we’re looking at Brazil and Spain is based on the size of the fanbases there."
ESPN's Adam Schefter previously reported that the NFL has examined Real Madrid's Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and Atletico Madrid's Estadio Metropolitano as host sites for a game in Spain. O'Reilly called Spain and Brazil "strong" and "important" markets.
"You've got some classic soccer clubs around the world who are really interested in hosting the NFL and building a relationship with the NFL," O'Reilly said last month. "So the marriage of those two -- there's interests there for sure, and it's just determining the timing and the approach."
The league has already hosted three games in London this fall and will play twice in Germany next month. There are no games in Mexico because Estadio Azteca is undergoing stadium renovations ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
