NFL Tight End Finally Breaks Embarrassing TD-Free Streak

Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride has been one of the best at his position this year, reeling in over 90 catches and close to 1,000 yards in his third season. But one thing had eluded him for the first 15 games: The endzone.

Not anymore.

After going 97 straight catches without a touchdown through 15-and-a-half NFL games, the 98th catch was the charm as Kyler Murray found him in the endzone of today's game against the Los Angeles Chargers for a touchdown - his first of the 2024 season.

Fans on social media were thrilled for McBride, offering their congratulations on finally getting his first touchdown of the 2024 season. Technically it wasn't his first touchdown of the year 2024 as he scored one against the Seattle Seahawks on January 7 in their 2023 season finale.

"Bro had 97 catches for 1025 yards with ZERO touchdowns on the season before this. Still insane," one user wrote.

"90+ catches and 900+ yards and hadn’t scored is wild," wrote another.

"Trey McBride is having a better season than last years and he now got his first TD of the season during Week 17. For shame Arizona," a third declared.

Not only did the catch end his record-setting streak of receptions without a touchdown, it made a deep cut into the Rams' 10-0 lead, leaving Arizona behind by only a few points in a must-win game against their NFC West rivals.

There's a chance that McBride could also be looking forward to a trip to the Pro Bowl after the year he's had.

As of writing he's at 99 receptions for 1,039 yards on the season and with a full game to go, making him the first player since DeAndre Hopkins in 2020 to go over 1,000 yards on a season for a Cardinals receiver. Though he probably won't be able to pass Hall of Famer Jackie Smith for the team's single-season receiving record for a tight end, which currently stands at 1,205.

That said, he's long-since set the record for most receptions by a tight end in the season. If he records 16 more he'll tie Hopkins for the most receptions in a season in team history.

The Cardinals-Rams game is being played on NFL Network.
