Many fans, former players and analysts around the sports world are remembering former Arkansas and NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett this week.

Mallett died Tuesday in Florida at the age of 35 as he was reportedly caught in a rip current while trying to swim back to shore.

One of the sports figures paying tribute to Mallett is former NFL punter and radio show host Pat McAfee. On Wednesday's episode of his show, McAfee discussed some of the good times he had with Mallett over the years.

The former punter also used the opportunity to give his audience a message about how short life can be.

"I assume that nobody thought whenever they went to the beach yesterday, and got in the ocean, that they were gonna come back with one less person," McAfee said.

"So remember that, whenever you wake up, that you had a chance to wake up."

McAfee said that while events like Mallett's death are tragic, they offer an opportunity for perspective on life and how it's important to take the good times with the bad times.

"Let’s remember that. And let’s try to enjoy every f---ing day. And not every day is great," he continued.

McAfee and Mallett weren't teammates, but they were in the NFL at the same time - McAfee with the Indianapolis Colts and Mallett with the New England Patriots and Houston Texans.
