Patrick Mahomes has been compared to legendary NBA great Michael Jordan. While both are incredibly dominant in their respective sports, they appear to have the same approach to politics, too.

Like Jordan, Mahomes is making it clear that he’s not going to tell people how to think politically. While other athletes might choose to use their platform to voice their political views, Mahomes is choosing to keep his thoughts to himself.

“I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president,” Mahomes said, per Time magazine.

“I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.”

Still, Mahomes has at times made it clear how he feels about certain issues, like gun violence or women’s rights. Mahomes said that action needs to be taken to prevent shootings, though he stopped short of calling for more gun control. On women’s rights, he said he disagreed with Harrison Butker’s speech.

“I judge him by the character he shows every day and that’s a good person. … We’re not always going to agree. He said certain things I don’t agree with,” he said.

Mahomes, though, declined to say which views he disagreed with.

“I’ve seen the clips. … That’s his views.”

Mahomes, arguably the best player in the NFL – and there’s not much to argue at this point – is choosing to keep things close to him when it comes to controversial topics.

Some on both sides of the political aisle might not like that, but it’s his choice.
