One of the NFL's premier defensive players will be missing the first six games of the 2019 regular season, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Patrick Peterson, an eight-time Pro Bowl defensive back, is being suspended by the NFL heading into the 2019 season.

The suspension is for "violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy, league sources told ESPN."

Peterson will not be appealing the suspension.

The Cardinals have a new head coach heading into the 2019 season in Kliff Kingsbury, though he'll be without arguably his best defensive player for nearly half of the season.

Peterson, 28, had been the subject of trade rumors for much of the offseason, though it's unlikely a move will happen now.
