Most key New England Patriots players aren't playing in tonight's preseason finale, but Julian Edelman is. The veteran wide receiver may have aggravated an injury in the process.

Edelman has been out of action the last few weeks while recovering from a broken thumb. After hauling in a pass against the New York Giants tonight, he came up favoring his left hand a bit.

Here's a look at the play and the hit on Edelman.

After the play, Edelman came to the sideline and had his left hand and thumb looked at by trainers. No update has been provided for him yet.

Obviously, it would be a sizable blow to New England if the 33-year-old Edelman re-injured his thumb. He's expected to reprise his key role as a slot receiver in the Patriots' attack this season.

This wouldn't be the first time Edelman got hurt in the preseason. He tore his ACL in exhibition action two years ago and missed the entire 2017 season.

Stay tuned for any further updates on Edelman.
