Here's Who Will Start If Le'Veon Bell Sits Out Week 1
Le'Veon Bell's holdout continues today. Last year, the superstar running back reported to Pittsburgh Steelers on Labor Day, ending his holdout and signing his franchise tender.
That day has obviously come and gone this year.
Everyone thought they knew how this would play out. Bell would report in the final week, accept the second straight year of the franchise tag, and the team would let him walk after the year.
Instead, there is now serious doubt whether Bell will be back with the team and ready for Week 1.
If Le'Veon Bell doesn't play for the Steelers at the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, James Conner will get the nod.
Conner is a former star at Pitt. In 2014, he was a First-Team All-American and ACC Player of the Year.
Back during the 2015 season, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, causing him to miss all but one game. He was declared cancer-free during the off-season, and returned to rush for over 1,000 yards as a senior. The Steelers took him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Last year, playing behind Bell, Conner ran the ball 32 times for 144 yards. He has been a star this preseason.
He has 100 yards on the ground on 19 carries, and scored one rushing touchdown. He's also looked good in the passing game, catching seven balls for 67 yards. That is an important role for running backs in the Steelers offense.
If Le'Veon Bell doesn't go, fantasy owners are going to want to get James Conner on their rosters. If you have room on the roster, you may want to make that move now, just in case.
