NFL Fans React To The Steelers Taking Down The Ravens Sunday
The Pittsburgh Steelers stayed atop the AFC North with an 18-16 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
In his worst game since taking over as Pittsburgh's starting quarterback, Russell Wilson completed 23 of 36 passes for 205 yards and an end-zone interception. The Steelers converted four of 16 third downs and settled for six field goals, but they nevertheless escaped with a huge win over their division rivals.
Although it wasn't pretty, observers praised the Steelers for persevering.
"What a gutty win for the #Steelers," ESPN's Mike Greenberg wrote. "If they can do that to Lamar [Jackson], there's no one they can’t beat. Mike Tomlin is Coach of the Year and Pittsburgh is a legit contender."
"Steelers overcoming a middling to poor Wilson game is huge," a Steelers fan account said. "This team is learning how to win with effort and grit."
"The Ravens entered today's game averaging more points than any other NFL team with 31.8 PPG & with a red-hot Lamar Jackson. The Steelers held Lamar to 1 TD & the Ravens to only 16 points. 8-2 now & in total control of the AFC North. That's what you call a statement win," theScore's Daniel Valente said.
"Impressive performance from the Steelers defense, had Lamar in a chokehold all day long and carried them to a big win on a day where the offense was a net negative," a Steelers draft analyst wrote.
The Steelers owe the Ravens some gratitude for multiple critical errors. Baltimore got called for 12 penalties and coughed up three turnovers. Chris Boswell made all six field goals -- including a 57-yarder -- for Pittsburgh, but the typically unflappable Justin Tucker missed two kicks in a game for the first time since Dec. 17, 2022.
With that said, the Steelers deserve considerable credit for again slowing down Lamar Jackson. The two-time MVP completed just 16 of his 33 passes for 207 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
Pittsburgh also contained Derrick Henry to 65 rushing yards, his lowest tally since Week 1. The Ravens averaged 182.6 rushing yards per game before settling for 124 on Sunday.
Following their fifth straight win, the Steelers improved to 8-2 with a 1.5-game lead over the Ravens. They're demanding to get taken seriously as a legit title contender, and they'll have more chances to solidify that case with five more games against AFC North foes and a Christmas Day clash against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Steelers won't have much time to celebrate their Week 11 win ahead of a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
