Los Angeles Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman is doing some backpedaling this week before Super Bowl LIII, and it doesn't involve trying to stay in front of a wide receiver.

Robey-Coleman made headlines when he was quoted in a piece on Bleacher Report saying that "age has definitely taken a toll" on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. As you can imagine, Robey-Coleman earned criticism from those who felt he was poking the bear before the big game.

He tried to clarify himself on Twitter yesterday, saying he was taken out of context.

At last night's Super Bowl Opening Night media event, Robey-Coleman continued to insist he wasn't dissing Brady. In fact, he referred to him as "the sensei of football." "He's a great quarterback. We know that he's got a lot of championships, a lot of accolades. He's a Hall of Famer," Robey-Coleman said. "I'm a little disrespected that people think I would disrespect Tom Brady."

Regardless of what happens on Sunday, we'd bet that Robey-Coleman will choose his words more carefully if he's in a situation like this again. It will be interesting to see if Brady and the Patriots target him early and often in coverage.

Super Bowl LIII is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday from Atlanta. CBS will broadcast the game.
