Last year, the Washington Redskins used its first round pick on Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins. The former Buckeye, who entered after just one year as starter in Columbus, struggled through much of his rookie year.
Still, it would be very surprising to see the franchise abandon him as the “quarterback of the future” this early on in his development. Plenty has changed in D.C. though.
The team has a rebuilt front office, following Bruce Allen’s ouster after a decade. It also has a new head coach. Ron Rivera, took over the franchise after a long stint with the Carolina Panthers. Today, he’s discussing the future of the quarterback position with his new team.
Washington has the No. 2 pick in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. The presumptive pick is Ohio State defensive end Chase Young, a rare defensive Heisman finalist and the next in line in a string of unbelievable pass rushers out of the school. Ohio State has produced Joey and Nick Bosa in recent years, two young NFL superstars, and some thing Young may be better than both. Rivera says that the two top quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft are still in play for the franchise though.
Ron Rivera says the Redskins will bring in QBs Joe Burrow and Tua Tagavailoa. Says all options are on the table.

It seems very unlikely that Burrow will be available after the Bengals’ pick at No. 1, so that may not be a major issue. Tua obviously makes things more interesting. He’s expected to be a top pick, and probably won’t get past the Miami Dolphins at No. 5, if all continues to look good with his medical issues related to the hip injury suffered last fall.
It also makes sense for Washington to play things as close to the vest as possible, with teams potentially looking to trade up for one of the quarterbacks.
The 2020 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 23. It won’t be long before the Redskins are on the clock.
