The Dolphins are preparing for the worst.
Ryan Tannehill's 2017 season might be over before it even started.
Thursday morning Ryan Tannehill went down after taking an awkward step during Dolphins practice.
Tannehill escaped the pocket and attempted to run out of bounds. In the process, however, Tannehill hyper-extended his knee.
Early reports suggested Tannehill did not suffer any structural damage in his left knee, but now Adam Schefter is reporting that the Dolphins think Tannehill may need season-ending surgery.
It would be a big blow to Tannehill, who missed the last part of the 2016 season with an ACL and MCL injury.
According to the report, Tannehill could miss 6-8 weeks without the surgery, or could miss the full 2017 season with the surgery. When he injured the same knee last season, Tannehill did not have surgery that would have repaired the initial injury.
