Report: Jets Will Only Bench Zach Wilson Under 1 Condition
The New York Jets have turned to Zach Wilson this season following Aaron Rodgers' injury in Week 1 and it looks like they'll keep him in that role through all of the highs and the lows.
Wilson has been far from what Jets fans were hoping for this season in terms of quarterback play, as it's been more of the same from a player that hasn't been able to live up to the expectations that were placed on him when he was drafted as the No. 2 overall pick.
Despite Wilson's struggles, the Jets are reportedly prepared to stick with the young quarterback "barring a disaster" this season, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
Russini says that the Jets believe that Wilson has "the most upside" of any healthy quarterback on the roster, and that he remains the best option for now.
The ultimate goal for the Jets is to make the playoffs and somehow have Rodgers return to see where he can take them.
Rodgers hasn't committed to a date for a return, and some have argued that coming back would be a poor choice both individually and for the Jets as a whole.
If Rodgers doesn't come back, the Jets seem to be prepared to run with Wilson for the rest of the season, despite his inability to connect with receivers and habit of turning the ball over.
Jets fans may not care to see Wilson anymore, but the front office believes that he's the best chance they have to win at the moment.
