There have been some incredible trades and free agent deals done in the past week. But the week is still young, and we could be poised to get one more blockbuster NFL trade before the weekend.
According to ProFootballTalk, the Los Angeles Rams are “currently in discussions” about trading perennial Pro Bowl running back Todd Gurley. The 25-year-old back is heading into the third year of a four-year, $57.5 million contract he signed in 2018.
Unfortunately for the Rams (and their potential trading partner), Gurley is going to cost a pretty penny in 2020. Per OverTheCap, he is set to have a cap number of $17.25 million. The cap hit alone narrows down the list of possible trading partners considerably.
Gurley is also coming off a down year after two prior All-Pro campaigns. In 2019 he averaged 3.8 yards per carry for 857 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Staying healthy has been a major obstacle for Gurley throughout his otherwise spectacular NFL career. The former Georgia superstar has missed seven games in five years, and has definitely played hurt on a number of occasions. But he has also been limited in key spots. Most notably, he barely touched the ball in Super Bowl LIII.
Nevertheless, whoever does land Gurley will get a premier back who has led the league in touchdowns twice in the last three years.
Who do you think is angling to trade for Todd Gurley?
