Trey Lance's time with the San Francisco 49ers could be coming to an end soon.

The 2021 No. 3 overall pick was beaten out by Sam Darnold for the backup quarterback role this summer, and with 2022 seventh-rounder Brock Purdy already locked in as the Niners' starter, Lance would be better served trying to jumpstart his career elsewhere.

Where might that be? Well, no deal seems to be close, based on reporting, but oddsmakers have already projected which franchises would be most interested in acquiring the North Dakota State product.

According to NBC Sports Bet, the Atlanta Falcons are the favorites to land Lance at +300. Next after them are the Minnesota Vikings at +350.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders round out the top five.

As to what the Niners might be able to recoup in a potential Lance trade, NFL insider Jordan Schultz says a Day 3 pick (Rounds 4-7) is the likely best outcome.

"Have spoken with several NFL executives about Trey Lance’s potential value: Sense is an early Day 3 pick is probably about right, although higher is feasible," Schultz tweeted Thursday. "One assistant GM noted he wasn’t convinced the #49ers pull the trigger unless they received more. 'He’s too talented to just give away.'"

Lance entered the 2021 season as San Francisco's starting quarterback, only to suffer a season-ending injury early in the campaign.

Jimmy Garoppolo replaced him, but when he went down with his own injury late in the year, Purdy stepped in and seized control of the quarterback position.
