Update: The 49ers have clarified the statement made by head coach Kyle Shanahan, saying George Kittle has not been ruled inactive.

Earlier: When the San Francisco 49ers take on the Arizona Cardinals this weekend they'll be without their best playmaker on offense. For the second-straight game, All-Pro tight end George Kittle will be inactive. Kittle suffered a knee injury in the team's first meeting with the Cardinals. He managed to finish that game with 79 receiving yards and a touchdown, but it's pretty clear that he's still dealing with pain. The 49ers are coming off their first loss of the regular season. Although the defense continued its dominance, the offense struggled without Kittle. Unfortunately for San Francisco, it'll have to go through another weekend without Kittle. Kyle Shanahan told the media today that his star pass-catcher will not play this Sunday.

Kittle is not the only playmaker that could be out against Arizona. Emmanuel Sanders is currently listed as a game-time decision for this matchup.

San Francisco is also expecting to be without Joe Staley and Matt Breida for the next few weeks.

The timing of all these injuries is quite brutal for the 49ers, especially since they're trying to lock up home-field advantage in the NFC.

Injuries could derail a team this late in the season, but it'd be foolish to count out Shanahan, who might just be win Coach of the Year.
