As a rookie, Saquon Barkley lived up to the expectations of being the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft. He produced more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage and immediately cemented himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL.
Barkley has shown signs of greatness, but the next test is keeping that going. Sustaining that level of performance is hard to do.
If there is one person in the current NFL who knows a little something about that, it's Tom Brady. Brady is the most accomplished quarterback of all-time, and at age 42, still carries himself in peak condition.
At today's NFL100 event in New York City, Barkley relayed a conversation he had with Brady at this year's Met Gala. After exchanging pleasantries, TB12 got down to business and challenged Barkley.
"He [Brady] said 'It's great to do it for one year, but can you do it for five? Can you do it for 10?" Barkley said. "I'm just sitting there in the Met Gala, fired up, ready to run through a wall and get the season started right there."
Can't knock Brady for trying to impart the competitiveness and drive that has made him the best onto another talented player.
We will see soon what Barkley has in store for an encore in 2019.
