Sean McVay Took Kelly Stafford's Viral Podcast Comments As 'A Joke'

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford's wife Kelly caused quite the stir on a recent episode of her "Morning After" podcast.

Stafford said that her husband is having trouble getting through to the younger players in the Rams locker room.

Kelly Stafford said her husband noted that his teammates call him "sir," despite everyone being on the same team and on the same level.

She also mentioned the tendency for younger players to go right to their phones after practice, and that Stafford had a book printed with everyone's name and face so he could remember them more easily.

The comments went viral, and they eventually reached Rams coach Sean McVay - who is only two years older than Stafford at 37.

"I’m not concerned because I think if you know Kelly, I took that as more of a joke at the old man,” McVay said.

“And I’ll be honest, there’s a couple throws that he made during training camp where I wanted to say, ‘Yes sir,’ to him as well.”

The head coach says he feels Stafford has "done a phenomenal job" when it comes to being a leader and connecting with his teammates, regardless of their age.

“He’s one of the most emotionally intelligent and authentically good people that I’ve been around,” McVay said about his quarterback.

“His ability to connect on a personal and a football level with guys, that comes really seamless to him."

The Rams are set to begin their season against the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
