On Wednesday afternoon, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made headlines when the team announced it had hired two female assistant coaches for the upcoming NFL season.

The Buccaneers announced that Lori Locust and Maral Javadifar are the new additions to head coach Bruce Arians' staff. Arians announced the move earlier today, but did not initially name the two coaches.

After serving as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Arians is in his first year as the head coach of the Buccaneers. He didn't wait long to make two splash hires.

Here's what he had to say about the move.

“I know how hard it can be to get that first opportunity to coach at the highest level of professional football. Sometimes, all you need is the right organization to offer up the opportunity.

The Glazer family and our general manager, Jason Licht, were extremely supportive of my decision, and I know Maral and Lori will be great additions to my coaching staff."

Javadifar will serve as assistant strength and conditioning coach and Locust as assistant defensive line coach.

The latter worked as the defensive line coach in the Alliance of American Football this year before taking a step up.

Locust spent the first few weeks of the AAF season as an assistant coach for the Birmingham Iron.
