The Cowboys Signed A New Kicker On Wednesday
After Brett Maher's historically bad performance in the NFL playoffs, many Cowboys fans were clamoring for the team to sign a new kicker.
On Wednesday, those fans got their wish.
Dallas signed kicker Tristan Vizcaino to its offseason roster, marking the kicker's 5th destination in the NFL.
Vizcaino has also played for the 49ers, Chargers, Cardinals and Patriots. He saw limited action with Arizona and New England in the 2022 season, appearing in 3 games.
Vizcaino converted 100% of his kicks in 2022, going 2 for 2 on field goals and 3 for 3 on extra points.
The Cowboys signed Vizcaino to their practice squad after Maher's disastrous performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He did not play in the divisional round against the 49ers, but he was on standby in the event of another Maher meltdown.
Maher made history against Tampa, missing his first 4 extra points in that game. The 4 missed extra points are the most in any NFL game (regular season or playoffs) since extra points were first tracked in 1932. Before that game, Maher had only missed 6 extra points in his career.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team may go in a different direction at kicker, and with the signing of Vizcaino, that appears to be the case.
