Preseason NFL football returned on Thursday night with many teams around the country in action. While the starters for most teams saw the field for a series or two, most of the focus was on the rookies.
The 2018 NFL draft saw five quarterbacks taken in the first round. Baker Mayfield, the No. 1 pick, shined in his debut for the Browns.
Meanwhile, Josh Allen showed his boom-or-bust potential. The former Wyoming quarterback known for his big arm rocketed a pass down the sideline early and connected with his wide receiver – there was only one problem, however.
The pass was five yards out of bounds. Allen clearly has the arm talent, but his accuracy and decision making are questionable.
That was never more evident than on this next play. The Bills rookie took the snap and looked to avoid the rush, but then made a disastrous mistake.

Allen clearly needs to make better decisions with the football or he’s not going to last in the NFL. Moments like this don’t instill a ton of confidence.
It’s only the first preseason game, tough, so it might not be time to panic just yet.
