Two NFL Players Released For Violating League's Gambling Policy
The NFL is doing its best to stop the spread of gambing by its players, and in some cases on team premises.
Both of those activities are prohibited in the NFL's rune book, but they haven't stopped certain players from attempting to circumvent the rules.
On Thursday, two player who were implicated in the NFL's most recent investigation into bets played by players on the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts have released both Rashod Berry and Isaiah Rodgers Sr. Colts general manager says that the gambling issues for the two players factored into the decision to let them go.
Rodgers has been suspended indefinitely, and it could be several years before he finds his way back on an NFL roster. It's a disappointing detour for a player in the best years of his football journey at 25 years old.
The same could be said for Berry at only 26 years old.
Rodgers and Berry aren't the only players who have been suspended or disciplined in another way. Other players include former first-round pick Jameson Williams of the Detroit Lions, along with some of his teammates.
Gambling in the NFL took off this season, thanks in large part to the accessibility of online and mobile sports betting.
The technology allows for players to place wagers anywhere inside of a legal site for betting, but the potential reward seems to pale in comparison to the risk of losing your job.
