Wade Phillips is not only an excellent defensive coach, he's quite the character as well. The guy knows how to not take things too seriously.
Take tonight's media night at Super Bowl LIII. Phillips, the defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams, has to deal with Tom Brady on Sunday, but that doesn't mean he's overly stressed.
He's certainly not showing it if he is. When asked by NFL Network's James Palmer how he is planning on slowing Brady down, Phillips dropped an absolute gem of an answer.
He joked that he will get an earpiece with Tony Romo on the other end telling him what is going to happen before the play.
Romo, of course, went viral during the AFC Championship Game for his ability to discern plays pre-snap and predict what was going to happen next. He will be on the call with Jim Nantz on CBS on Sunday.
Of course, the last time Phillips faced Brady in the playoffs, he didn't need Romo's help to beat him. Phillips was the DC in Denver when the Broncos took down the Patriots in the AFC Championship three years ago.
That Denver team went on to win the Super Bowl, shutting down Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in Santa Clara.
