Former Arizona State linebacker Jason Franklin has passed away. He was only 26.

Franklin's death was confirmed on Sunday night by his mother. The cause of death is not known.

"We are heartbroken...our dear son Jason passed away yesterday," Franklin's mother wrote. "Please keep us in your prayers."

Franklin walked on to the Sun Devils in 2011, playing for the program from 2011-15. He earned a scholarship in 2014.

During his career, Franklin appeared in three games and won two varsity letters. He was also named the team's Glen Hawkins Scout Team Defensive MVP in 2015.

Franklin's coach at ASU, Todd Graham, tweeted a message for his former player on Sunday night.

Franklin was also known as a local media personality in Phoenix. He worked in radio and TV after graduating from ASU with a degree in communications.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Franklin's friends and family and the entire Arizona State football community.
