It appears that Arizona State will go into its bowl game on Saturday without the services of its best defensive player, freshman linebacker Merlin Robertson.
Robertson has been a star in his first season in Tempe, but he is expected to miss the upcoming matchup with Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl.
According to ASU head coach Herm Edwards, Robertson has not been with the team this week due to an unspecified family situation. Redshirt junior Khaylan Kearse- Thomas will fill in for Robertson.
Robertson won’t be easy to replace. The true freshman leads the Sun Devils in tackles (77), tackles for loss (8.5) and sacks (5.0).
He also has broken up two passes, recovered a fumble, forced a fumble and come away with an interception.
ASU coach Herm Edwards says not likely LB Merlin Robertson will play in bowl game. He hasn't been here all week because of a family situation that came up. Khaylan Thomas will start in his place. @ASUFootball
