Oregon and Michigan State football both had fairly middling seasons for programs of their recent stature, but they should make for an interesting post-season match-up. The two are officially set to face off in the Redbox Bowl.
This is the first year of the Redbox bowl sponsorship. The game, played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Ca., was most recently the Foster Farms Bowl, and before that, the Kraft Foods and Diamond Foods Bowl.
Oregon is 8-4 in its first season under Mario Cristobal. The team is on a two-game winning streak, beating Arizona State and blowing out rival Oregon State to close the season.
Michigan State is limping into bowl season a bit. The team scored a total of 12 points in losses to Ohio State and Nebraska, and squeaked by a bad Rutgers team 14-10 to close a 7-5 campaign.

The Oregon vs. Michigan State Redbox Bowl game will be played on December 31 at noon.
The game will be broadcast on FOX.
This is the first appearance for both programs in any iteration of this bowl game.
Oregon and Michigan State have split their six all-time match-ups. They recently split a regular season home-and-home in 2014 and 2015, with Oregon blowing out Michigan State in Eugene in 2014 en route to the national championship game.
Michigan State won the following year by three points. The Spartans made the College Football Playoff semifinal that year, losing to Alabama.
The Ducks and Spartans have never played in a bowl game.
