Oregon’s football program stunned the college football world this evening, when news broke of defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt’s departure from the Ducks. Leavitt is leaving Oregon after two seasons.
Leavitt, 62, had led the Ducks’ defense from 2017-18. Details surrounding his departure are unclear at this point.
247Sports first reported the news of his departure.
According to multiple sources, Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt will no longer coach at Oregon. The reasoning behind Leavitt’s departure isn’t known at this time, but sources said the Ducks have started a search for a new linebacker coach.
Oregon could not confirm or deny this report when reached for comment.
Oregon’s football players don’t appear to be taking the news very well.
Several Ducks’ defenders have taken to Twitter. It’s safe to say they’re pretty shocked.

Oregon is reportedly expected to promote from within for the new defensive coordinator. The Ducks are reportedly going to be promoting co-defensive coordinator Keith Heyward to be the sole leader of the defense.
The Ducks have yet to officially announce the news. Stay tuned.
