Oregon and Oregon State share one of the most intense and oldest rivalries in all of college football. However, state pride apparently trumps the bad blood that has been built up over 120 years in the Civil War. In today’s issue of The Oregonian, the Beavers’ athletic department took out a full-page advertisement congratulating Mariota on bringing the Heisman Trophy back to the state.
Oregon State legend Terry Baker was the first and only Oregonian to win the Heisman prior to Mariota. Baker played quarterback for the Beavers, and won the award in 1962.
You never see schools do things like this when something good happens to its biggest rival, which makes this an incredibly classy move by Oregon State.
