6-foot-6 wing Brandon Austin was one of the highlights of Providence coach Ed Cooley’s recruiting class. The Philadelphia native was given four stars by Scout.com, and was ranked ninth among all small forwards by the site. It now appears that he will never play a minute for the Friars, as he is reportedly transferring to play for Dana Altman at Oregon.
Austin will bolster a rising Oregon program, though ESPN’s Jeff Goodman believes it takes the Ducks out of the running for another coveted transfer:
I’m told that Oregon taking Brandon Austin basically takes the Ducks out of the equation for Chane Behanan — if he elects to transfer.

Austin, along with fellow freshman Rodney Bullock, had been sitting out due to a full-year suspension at Providence after a violation of the school’s student Code of Conduct. Because he is transferring this winter, he should be eligible to play next December.
