(Photo by Stephen Lam/Getty Images)The Stanford Cardinal are aiming to upset the No. 12 Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium this evening. That’ll prove difficult without Stanford starting quarterback Davis Mills on the field.
Mills has been ruled out of tonight’s game because of COVID-19 protocols, per ESPN college football reporter Kyle Bonagura. Stanford will have to turn to its backup when it takes on the Ducks this evening.

Mills isn’t the only Cardinal that won’t be playing this evening. Stanford starting receiver Connor Wedington and defensive end Trey LaBounty have also been ruled out, per Stanford’s official announcement.

With Davis Mills out of the lineup, David Shaw will have to turn to his backup, Jack West. West was a four-star quarterback recruit and joined Stanford as apart of the 2018 class. He’ll now be thrust into the spotlight to take on an Oregon Ducks team that fields a vicious defense.
The Ducks have a new identity under head coach Mario Cristobal. Once known for its speed and athleticism, Oregon is now one of the most physical teams in the nation. That physicality will be on full display this evening when the Ducks host the Cardinal.
The Pac-12 was hoping to have an easy transition into the season’s start, but it’s been quite the opposite. The Pac-12 cancelled two of its games this weekend because of pandemic protocols.
Stanford is the latest program experiencing the effects of playing football in the midst of a pandemic.
