Would he have thanked Trump without being asked to?
One month ago, UCLA basketball freshman LiAngelo Ball and two of his teammates, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill, who were arrested on charges of shoplifting in China, were allowed to fly back to the United States.
Early reports suggested the trio could face jail time, but the charges were dropped - about a day or two after President Trump reportedly reached out to Chinese president Xi Jinping to resolve the situation.
Trump tweeted about the ordeal, saying all three players should thank him, which all three did when giving their public apologies.
In a recent interview, LiAngelo Ball revealed UCLA told the players to thank the president.
LiAngelo said the following:
"If they didn't tell me to do it, it wouldn't have been in there."
Gelo and his younger brother LaMelo reportedly signed a one-year deal with a professional Lithuanian basketball team.
