Ziaire Williams will probably be one of the more notable members of the 2020 recruiting class. Not only is he a five-star recruit, but he’s high school teammates with the sons of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade at Sierra Canyon.
247Sports currently ranks Williams as the No. 5 player in the country, and No. 2 among small forwards.
He recently cut down his list to seven programs. Arizona, Duke, North Carolina, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, and USC all made the cut.
Two weeks ago, Rivals reported that UNC and Stanford had “separated themselves from the pack” while Duke and UCLA were both “picking up ground.”
Now, we have a slightly better idea where things stand, after a recent 247 interview with Williams’ mother. The blue-chip wing is set to open his official visits this weekend, with a trip to nearby USC.
Five-star small forward Ziaire Williams will take his first official visit to USC this weekend, his mother Marquita Williams told 247Sports.
Thus far this is the only visit Williams, who will finish his high school career at Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon, has scheduled.
“[We are] planning one official at a time,” his mother said.
Given what we have heard about the rest of his list, it sounds like Arizona and Oregon may be on the outside looking in, but both of those programs have serious recruiting chops, so I wouldn’t count them out either.
In addition to the USC visit, Williams’ mother Marquita said that a decision will likely come in the spring. Ziaire Williams has a big decision to make, and it sounds like he and his family will take some time to make sure it is the correct one.
