Report: USC Still Not Picking Starting QB For Season Opener

Kiffin will make his decision after the Hawaii game.

After months of drills and scrimmages, Trojans fans were hoping head coach Lane Kiffin would have selected a new quarterback to replace Matt Barkley in time for the season opener against Hawaii.

Nope. LA Times' Gary Klein tweets:

That's not the only position in which Kiffin has declined to select a first stringer. The RB depth chart has senior Silas Redd listed alongside redshirt freshman Tre Madden and true freshman Justin Davis. The entire secondary remains nebulous as well:

Cornerback: Kevon Seymour or Devian Shelton.
Cornerback: Anthony Brown or Torin Harris.
Free safety: Josh Shaw or Dion Bailey or Demetrius Wright.
Strong safety: Su'a Cravens or Gerald Bowman or Leon McQuay III.

Kiffin is probably banking on USC's relatively easy September schedule to help him figure out how his new quarterbacks and defensive scheme will work in actual game situations. After the opener against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors this Thursday, the Trojans get home games against Washington State, Boston College, and Utah State. In a mock game at the Coliseum, Wittek scored a TD and led the offense to two field goals, while Kessler threw two TDs and two INTs.

Kickoff on Thursday is set for 8 PM PT.
