Early in the season it looked like Arizona State would be a Pac-12 contender and USC would be a Pac-12 cellar-dweller. Fast forward to their game this weekend and those roles have practically been reversed.
Arizona State started off the season looking like one of the best teams in the Pac-12. They went 5-1, picking up huge road wins over Michigan State and Cal in the process. But back-to-back losses to Utah and UCLA have all but ended their title hopes. They’re still likely to reach bowl eligibility, but head coach Herm Edwards needs a strong November to finish on a high note.
As for the Trojans, USC head coach Clay Helton is still hanging on to his job, and could wind up winning the division. Despite a 5-4 overall record, they’re only one game back from Utah in the Pac-12 South race. If the Utes lose one more in-conference game and USC wins out, the Trojans will be in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
Given that their defenses have been the main culprit in their last few losses, bettors are expecting a pretty close game.

Here are the details for the USC vs. Arizona State game:
Game Time: 3:30 PM ET
Spread: Arizona State -1.5
Announcers: Jason Benetti, Rod Gilmore, Quint Kessenich
USC owns a series lead against Arizona State, boasting a 21-13 edge. But Herm Edwards found the formula for beating Clay Helton last year, leading the Sun Devils to a 38-35 win at the Coliseum.
Both programs would reach bowl eligibility with a win on Saturday. They’ll throw everything they’ve got into winning this one.
