USC Names Clay Helton Permanent Head Coach

The USC Trojans have a new head football coach. Monday morning, the school officially announced that interim head coach Clay Helton, who took over for Steve Sarkisian mid-season, has landed the full-time gig. Helton posted a 5-2 record with the Trojans in seven games this year, including an important rivalry game victory over UCLA this past Saturday. He also led the team to a Pac-12 South title and a spot in the league's championship game against Stanford. Helton was formerly the team's offensive coordinator.

Helton's first task? Taking down the high-powered Stanford Cardinal next Saturday. Winning the Pac-12 title in your first official game as permanent head coach would be a nice accomplishment.
