Maurice Jones is now officially transferring to Iowa State after announcing it on Twitter last month.
Jones led the Trojans in minutes per game, averaging nearly 40 per, while averaging 13 points, 3.5 assists, and 1.8 steals.
When he was first ruled ineligible on September 1st, it was expected that he would stick around and join the Trojans once again for the 2013-2014 season. Averaging the most minutes in the PAC-12 last year, it's needless to say that this is a big blow to a basketball team nothing short of woeful last year.
On the bright side for the Trojans, the fall off will not be too bad with the addition of transfer J.T. Terrell and the return of Jio Fontan. This will now give USC a bigger look in the backcourt backed by the long and lanky Dewayne Dedmon, Tennessee transfer Renaldo Woolridge, and Rice transfer Omar Oraby.
The team has become somewhat of a melting pot that Coach O'Neil hopes can mesh together and turn out to be something delicious. Despite the loss of their leading scorer, the Trojans should be in store for a much improved this season if they can stay healthy and focused on consistently winning games once again.
