USC and Stanford meet in an early season conference game that could have big implications. Both the Trojans and Cardinal are coming off dominant performances in their first games.
USC’s offense racked up 701 yards in a rout of Fresno State. Stanford’s defense shut out UC Davis and only allowed 115 yards. This game will go a long way in deciding the Pac-12.

Prediction: USC’s offense is led by Cody Kessler, who threw for 394 yards and tossed four touchdowns against Fresno State. The Trojans have plenty of offensive depth. In fact, ten different players caught passes in week one. USC also has a strong defense that wasn’t tested much against Fresno State. Defensive lineman Leonard Williams is one of the best players in the country and must have a big game if the Trojans are to prevail.
It’s hard to judge how good Stanford will be this year. The Cardinal lost a 1,700+-yard rusher in Tyler Gaffney. Defensive coordinator Derek Mason is now the head coach at Vanderbilt. But quarterback Kevin Hogan has experience and he will be counting on go-to weapon Ty Montgomery this week and throughout the season. David Shaw’s teams always have strong defense and they have become a tough team to play at home.
Last week, there was concern with USC and how the Trojans would handle the off-field distractions of Josh Shaw and Anthony Brown. Clearly, they didn’t let those issues affect them in their opener. We’ll take USC to keep it going – and win outright.
