Lost in Alabama’s dominance to start the 2019 season has been a strange saga involving freshman Antonio Alfano. The former five-star defensive end was one of the top recruits in the nation, but doesn’t appear to be sticking around in Tuscaloosa.
According to BamaHammer, Alfano entered the NCAA transfer portal this morning. The move comes after Alfano missed the last few weeks of practice for what head coach Nick Saban called “disciplinary reasons.”
Saban wouldn’t go into specifics at the time, but noted that Alfano has “kind of disappeared a bit.”
Saban also indicated that there was some kind of “mistake” that had been made by Alfano.

“He’s kind of disappeared a little bit,” Saban said Wednesday. “I talked to our team today about the fact that — people make mistakes. We all make mistakes. I make mistakes, probably everybody in this room makes mistakes…”

Coming out of high school, Alfano was the No. 5 overall prospect in the country by 247Sports. He was the No. 1 strong-side defensive end in the nation, and the No. 1 recruit from the state of New Jersey.
We’ll see where Alfano lands in the coming days.
