Battle stepped away from his job in June to undergo a round of stem cell transplants at Emory University in Atlanta. He was released from the hospital July 8 and is now recovering at home.
He hopes to return to work “on a limited basis” in the near future.
A native of Birmingham and a graduate of Alabama, Battle was appointed to the AD position by University President Dr. Judy Bonner and approved by the board of trustees March 22, 2013. He was formerly a licensing executive and the head football coach at the University of Tennessee from 1970 to 1976.
