Alabama Assistants Earn Raises Following National Championship

After helping the program win its fourth national championship in the last seven years, Alabama's assistant coaches received raises on Tuesday.

AL.com has all the details here.

While each assistant received a salary bump, three raises in particular stood out. Running backs coach Burton Burns earned the highest increase, from $345,000 to $475,000 per year. Co-defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi upgraded from $425,000 to $550,000 per year.

But perhaps most noteworthy was the $105,000 raise paid out to strength coach Scott Cochran, whose updated $525,000 salary is more than 20 head coaches and nearly 1,000 assistants nationwide.

Cochran's deal in particular is eye-opening, but the logic behind it is simple. The dude is elite in his field, and his presence gives Alabama a competitive advantage. The Crimson Tide have the means to pay him, so they did.
